  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda until well combined.
  3. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped herbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until smooth.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a rustic round loaf.
  7. Place the loaf on the prepared baking sheet and cut a deep cross on the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a healthier twist, consider substituting half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour or using a lower-fat cheese.
