Shepherd’s Pie Tater Tot Casserole

A hearty and comforting casserole combining the classic flavors of Shepherd’s Pie with crunchy tater tots and gooey cheddar cheese.

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 bag (32 ounces) tater tots
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in the mixed vegetables, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Spread the beef mixture evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Layer the tater tots on top of the beef mixture.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the tater tots.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and the tater tots are golden brown.
  8. Let cool for a few minutes, then serve with a dollop of sour cream.

Notes

For deeper flavors, consider slow cooking the beef and vegetables. Assemble the casserole in advance and refrigerate before baking.
